Use a passkey

A passkey is a sign-in saved on your device and unlocked the way you unlock the device, such as with your face or your PIN. In Polaris Locker, you use a passkey to confirm it’s you before you add or remove a sign-in method. A passkey doesn’t replace the email code on the sign-in page, so keep an email address on your account.

Before you start

You need a verified email address on your account, a browser that can make passkeys, and a sign-in from the last 5 minutes. A passkey made here works only with Locker.

Add a passkey

1. Open the account menu and select Sign-in methods.
2. Under Passkeys, select Add a passkey.
3. If you see Confirm it’s you first, confirm it’s you.
4. Select Add a passkey again when the page says Thanks, that’s you. Now add your passkey.
5. Follow your device’s prompt to save the passkey.

If Add a passkey is unavailable, the page says why: add an email first, you already have 20 passkeys, or this browser can’t make passkeys.

Check it worked

The passkey appears under Passkeys, named for where it was saved, such as iCloud Keychain. Locker emails every verified address on your account. See A sign-in method was added.

Use your passkey

When Locker asks you to Confirm it’s you first, select Use your passkey. Then unlock the passkey. Your browser offers only passkeys saved for this account. If your passkey doesn’t work, select Use an email code instead, then Email me a code.

Remove a passkey

1. Open Sign-in methods and find the passkey under Passkeys.
2. Select Remove next to it.
3. If you see Confirm it’s you first, confirm it’s you. A passkey or an emailed code removes the passkey at once.
4. If you don’t see that prompt, or after Sign in again with, select the button that starts with Remove and names the passkey.

To stop, select Keep it. Removing a passkey doesn’t delete it from your device. Delete it there too.

The message for a last sign-in method that can’t be removed is:

Can't remove

This is your account's only sign-in method. Add another one before removing it.

Why you see this. Every account needs at least one way to sign in, so its last sign-in method can't be removed.

What to do. Add another sign-in method first, then remove this one.

Code: last_link

In your account the last method shows Only method, and its Remove or Disconnect button stays unavailable. For a passkey the page says This is your only way to sign in. Connect another one first, then you can remove this passkey. Add another sign-in method first, such as an email address. For your only email address the page says This is your account’s only email address. Add another one first, then you can remove it.
