Your library at polaris.locker lets you see and download or remove information held for you. This page says in plain words what an app that uses Polaris Locker reads from your device, what its developer sees, and what you can ask for.
What an app reads from your device
Section titled “What an app reads from your device”- Computer identifiers, such as your computer’s ID and serial number, its network card address
and its disk ID. The app scrambles each one on your device. Locker never receives the
original values.
- An app uses them to count your devices against your license, to give a free license to one computer only once, and to notice a changed computer.
- Apps that run in a web browser don’t read them.
- System details: your operating system and its version, your computer’s model, processor,
number of processor cores and memory, your language and time zone, and the version of the app.
Locker receives these as they are, and the app’s developer can see them.
- They let the developer see which systems the app runs on, check that it works on yours and send it the right settings.
- Apps that run in a web browser send the kind of operating system, processor cores, memory, language, time zone and the version of the app.
- Your computer’s name, as set in your system settings. It can include your own name, and you can change it there. Apps you install usually send it, so you can tell your devices apart in your library. The developer sees it too. Apps that run in a web browser send none.
- A few named apps: a developer can ask whether specific apps, such as a companion app, are installed. The app can’t list the apps you have.
An app doesn’t read your user name on the computer, your files or your browsing. A developer can turn the computer identifiers off. The system details are still sent.
What the developer sees
Section titled “What the developer sees”- A random ID that exists for that app only. Another app sees a different ID for you.
- Your licenses for the app, its devices with their system details and names, and the kind of sign-in you used, such as Steam.
- Your screen name and picture, only if you agree to share them.
- Your email, only if the developer already has it from your purchase or you agree to share it.
A developer never sees your Locker account ID, your other sign-in methods, your birth date or anything from another app.
What Locker holds
Section titled “What Locker holds”Locker holds the details you give your account: email addresses, sign-in methods, name, picture and an optional birth date. It also keeps your licenses, the apps in your library, a list of the browsers signed in to your account and a record of changes to your sign-in methods. For each device, it keeps the scrambled computer identifiers, never the originals, until the device is removed. It keeps your computer’s name and the last system details your device sent for as long as the license exists. Each app’s developer manages its own information about you, such as saves or settings. You can change your account details in Your account and sign-in methods.
